Hiplok co-founders Ben Smith and John Abrahams are product designers by trade and cyclists by heart. With over 25 years combined design and cycle industry experience, they set out to change security for cyclists. They wanted to protect what they love by bringing their design expertise and rider experience to deliver innovative, high-quality locks and accessories that protect bikes and the joy of riding. When they aren’t at the drawing board or in the testing lab at Hiplok’s UK Design Headquarters, you’ll find them riding bikes.

Secured by Design (SBD), which celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2024, operates an accreditation scheme on behalf of the UK Police Service for products or services that have met recognised security standards. These products or services – which must be capable of deterring or preventing crime – are known as being of a ‘Police Preferred Specification’.

These include doors, windows, external storage, bicycle and motorcycle security, locks and hardware, asset marking, alarms, CCTV, safes, IoT-connected products, perimeter security products, and many others.
SBD is the only way companies can obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK.
