In our latest test, we pushed the D1000, anti-angle grinder bike D lock to its limit with an angle grinder. The results were eye-opening, showing just how much of a difference the right security can make. The video, 10 Locks vs. 1 Lock: The Ultimate Angle Grinder Strength Test, was released in February, but there’s a lot more to the story than what made the final cut.

HOW DID WE TEST IT?
We carefully selected 10 locks currently available on the market, with most of them rated Sold Secure Pedal Cycle Gold or higher. This included 6 Gold-rated locks, 3 Diamond-rated locks, and 2 unrated locks. The goal of the test was simple – simulate a real-world scenario where a thief targets a bike locked with a standard D lock compared to D1000. How long would it take to cut through?
To get an accurate picture, we factored in real attack conditions, including disc changes and battery swaps, to measure the true cutting time. We used an Makita 18v portable angle grinder with Bosch 1mm metal cutting discs for all tests.
Timing started when we began cutting through the first lock and stopped once the last one was fully severed. The same process applied to the D1000 using a fresh disc and a fully charged battery, we started the timer as soon as the cutting began.

The 10 locks took two discs to cut through in a total time of 5 minutes and 17 seconds, while the D1000 required seven discs and took 8 and a half minutes. In fact, we used up every disc we had while cutting the D1000, and since the timer had already far exceeded the total time for the 10 locks, we stopped the test when the last disc was used up.
All 10 locks were completely destroyed, while the D1000 sustained only small amount of damage. Also, the D1000 features double locking tabs, meaning thieves would need to cut through both sides to break the lock. This added layer of security significantly increases the time and effort required to compromise the lock.
The test proves that the D1000 is very resistant to angle grinders, lasting significantly longer than it took to cut through 10 other locks. One lock is stronger than 10 locks? Absolutely, if that one lock is a D1000.
