The Met Police share top tips for protecting your property in this new crime prevention video. Independent security testing expert, John Millbank, says practical no-nonsense security devices are imperative for protecting your bicycle and motorcycle. And he recommends Hiplok locks.

When it comes to security for bicycle or motorcycles, treat it like an investment. Good security is something you invest in and lasts you a lifetime.

For bicycles, there are a number of high-quality chain locks and D locks on the market such as the lightweight Hiplok LITE, wearable bike lock or the Hiplok URBAN D, D-lock. Depending on where and what you are locking you can then step up security from here.

The Best Motorcycle Security

John explains that research from Bennetts insurance database showed that using even basic security, such as a disc lock, reduces chance of being stolen by factor of 3. Don't ever rely on a steering lock as those can be easily broken.

He recommends disc locks such as the Hiplok MDX  which stops bikes being pushed away. Or invest in the best with the ultimate security disc locks such as the Hiplok MD1000 which is difficult to beat.

For the next level of protection, John recommends the Hiplok anti-angle grinder D locks including the D1000 and DX1000. Hiplok DX1000 is rated the best motorcycle security on the market. It easily goes over the front wheel and can secure to a point such as railings. DX1000 has the best resistance to attack than any lock tested.

If you want to take things further, you can add a chain too to tether either motorcycle or bike to a secure anchor point.

The Best Home Security

When protecting your bike at home or in the garage, bigger is better. Most bikes in the UK are actually stolen from around the home, including garages and outbuildings.

For general home security, choose a heavy-duty chain secured to a ground or wall anchor. A 20mm or 22mm chain such as the Hiplok MEGA CHAIN is ideal for this purpose.

For ultimate protection at home, Hiplok's anti-angle grinder anchors provide ultimate resistance against attack. The A1000 pairs perfectly with a heavy-duty chain, while the AX1000 features a rotating and pivoting arm designed to work with a D lock (D1000 or DX1000) for maximum security. Both anchors feature Hiplok's unique anti-angle grinder technology for enhanced protection.

Invest in the best security you can afford and keep your bike safe. Use it every day and stop worrying about theft.
