Earlier this June, our Co-Founder Ben Smith and Head of Sales Stuart Bailey took on The Double Peak, a challenging 200km off-road ride through the Peak District, to raise money for Cyclists Fighting Cancer.
Cyclists Fighting Cancer helps children and young people living with and beyond cancer regain strength, confidence and independence through cycling. It's a charity we're proud to support, and this ride was a way to contribute in a very 'Hiplok' way!

Taking on the challenge
The Double Peak is a demanding off-road endurance ride covering more than 200km through the Peak District. With significant elevation and changeable conditions, it makes for a tough day on the bike.
In the months leading up to the event, Ben and Stuart put in plenty of training, with early mornings, long rides, sore legs, and more than a few sessions in less-than-ideal weather.
A tough day in the Peaks
Despite the preparation, the ride proved to be a serious test.
Rain and strong winds made the first half of the day particularly challenging, adding to already demanding terrain that included long climbs and technical descents.
Of the 70 riders who started, just 18 made it to the finish, including Ben and Stuart.

Stuart described it simply:
“Genuinely the hardest day I’ve ever done on a bike.”
He added:
“The route was amazing but very challenging in places and tested me physically and mentally.”
There were still moments to take in the surroundings along the way:
“The Peak District is a beautiful place to ride with breathtaking scenery, when you can see through the clouds!”

Riding with purpose
By the end of the challenge, Ben and Stuart had completed The Double Peak!
Throughout the ride, the motivation behind it stayed front of mind.
“It was great motivation doing the ride with Ben knowing we were raising a load of money for such a worthwhile charity.”
That shared goal helped carry both riders through a long and demanding day in the saddle.
More than £3,000 raised
Crossing the finish line was a huge achievement in itself, but the impact of the challenge goes far beyond the ride.
It raised more than £3,000 for Cyclists Fighting Cancer, thanks to the support of colleagues, friends and the wider Hiplok community.
A huge thank you to everyone who donated or supported the ride in any way.
