Introducing TRACK: A Simple Way to Keep AirTag™ on Your Bike

Alongside the updated  Z LOK COMBO, Hiplok’s Co-Founders and Product Designers Ben Smith and John Abrahams have also designed a new AirTag™ holder, TRACK , designed to discreetly mount your AirTag™ to your bike. We asked John a few questions about TRACK’s development.

What is TRACK?

Hiplok TRACK is a AirTag™ holder, which allows you to mount your AirTag™ discreetly to your bike, so you can track your bike, should the worst happen. Wherever you position it, TRACK’s weatherproof & protective design both secures and conceals your AirTag™

Q. What inspired the idea for TRACK?

Ben and I had previously looked into different technologies related to bike visibility and theft alert systems, but we never found one that did everything we wanted.

Then Apple launched the AirTag™. After testing it out over time, we started to see their potential for cyclists. Even though AirTag™ doesn’t provide theft alerts, having one discreetly mounted on your bike gives you peace of mind.

Using the “Find My” app on your iPhone, you can quickly and easily check where your bike is at any moment. It’s simple, effective, and reassuring. If your bike does get stolen, it gives you a better chance of tracking it down.

It definitely adds that layer of comfort, knowing you’ve got a way to locate it if the worst happens. We wanted something that would let you mount your AirTag™ discreetly on your bike, something that doesn’t stand out but still does the job well.

Q. What problem does it aim to solve?

Well, you could argue that if you are going to put an AirTag™ on your bike, there are quite a few places you could try to hide it. But putting it inside the metal frame can weaken the signal, so the AirTag™ might not work as effectively in that position.

TRACK gives the rider a simple and secure place to mount their AirTag™.

The versatile design allows you to either use TRACK on its own or install it underneath your bottle cage. That way, you do not lose the function of carrying a water bottle, and your AirTag™ remains discreet and protected.

Q. Where is the best spot of a bike to use TRACK?

There is not necessarily one best spot, but the simplest and most common place to mount it is under your bottle cage. TRACK was designed so that you can use it on its own or mount a bottle cage on top of it. That way, it makes use of the bottle cage bolts and still lets you carry a water bottle on your bike.

You can also mount TRACK in more hidden areas depending on your bike. For example, under the seat post, along the down tube behind the derailleur, or on the inside of the chain stays.

Mounting it in these spots makes it less visible and a bit more discreet, especially if someone tries to steal the bike and remove the AirTag™.

It really depends on the type of bike you have and where you feel comfortable placing it. If you are already using your bottle cages, it is useful that TRACK is flexible and can be fitted in different spots rather than needing to be installed in one fixed location.

Q. What makes TRACK different from others on the market?

TRACK comes with a Z LOK COMBO mounting bracket, which can be installed directly on top of it. So if you use a Z LOK COMBO, you can carry both your lock and your AirTag™ in one place.

Another thing that sets TRACK apart is how you can mount it. You can use the standard bottle cage mounts or attach it with cable ties, which gives you more flexibility. You do not have to remove or compromise any part of your setup just to fit an AirTag™ on your bike. TRACK lets you keep everything in place while adding that extra layer of security.

Q. What impact do you hope this product will have?

I hope it encourages more people to use an AirTag™ and helps them feel more confident about keeping an eye on their bikes. It is really about peace of mind, knowing where your bike is and being able to check on it easily.

That said, it is important to remember that using an AirTag™ is not a substitute for proper bike security. TRACK does not stop your bike from being stolen, but it helps you stay connected to where it is. So it should always be used alongside appropriate locks.

For example, if you are commuting and leaving your bike at a station, make sure you are using a strong lock. Or if you are out on a road ride and stopping at a café, use something like the Z LOK COMBO. TRACK adds that extra layer of reassurance but locking up properly is still key.
