Bike and motorcycle theft has changed. One of the most common tools thieves now carry is the cordless angle grinder. That’s why having a lock that can actually stand up to an angle grinder is more important than ever.
One of our customers, Mihai, recently shared his experience after not one, but two attempted thefts with angle grinders on his motorcycle.
cctv: hiplok d1000 stops angle grinder theft attempt
“Hiplok is the reason I still have my motorcycle. Thieves tried cutting the D1000 with an angle grinder twice already. I obtained the CCTV footage from a nearby business, and you can see and hear the thieves very clearly. They took less than 5 seconds to chop down the (non-Hiplok) alarmed disk lock, and then they got to work on the D1000 with the angle grinder. They eventually gave up and left. They came back a few weeks later and tried again, spending more time on the same D1000 before giving up again. Since then, I added a Hiplok Mega Chain at the back, with its own D1000. I hope the combination will deter other attempts. Excellent product, and great prompt support from the team.”
In the CCTV footage, you can clearly see the thieves struggling to cut through the D1000. It didn’t happen. The D1000 is designed specifically for this purpose. It lasts significantly longer under angle grinder attacks than standard locks.

No lock can make your bike 100% theft-proof, but the right one can make all the difference. Slowing thieves down, making noise, and giving them a reason to walk away. So if you want to keep your bike safe, investing in a bike lock isn’t optional, it’s essential. A heavy-duty lock can be the difference between riding home and filing a police report.
The D1000 is built to stand up to serious attacks, and Mihai’s story is just one of many. If you want to see more theft attempts that were stopped by Hiplok, click here.
